What is the KPP01 test?
KPP01 is the JPJ computer theory test (Ujian Undang-undang Jalan Raya Bahagian I) that every new driver in Malaysia must pass before getting a learner driving licence (LDL). You sit it after the KPP theory class at a JPJ-registered driving institute. The car test has 50 multiple-choice questions and you need 42 correct.
The exam format
| Questions | 50 (car KPP01) |
|---|---|
| Time | 45 minutes |
| Pass mark | 42 out of 50 |
| Fee | RM 27 + 8% SST; resit RM 17 + 8% SST |
| KPP Gabungan (car and motorcycle together) | 70 questions, 1 hour 15 minutes, pass 56/70 |
| Theory class | At least 6 hours, one combined class for all licence classes since 29 August 2025 |
| Minimum age | 17 for a car (D or DA) |
These figures come from the JPJ FAQ on the KPP Gabungan module, updated 31 July 2025. Candidates who fail the computer test more than three times may apply to sit a written test at a JPJ office. The test is commonly reported to be offered in Bahasa Malaysia and English; check the language with your driving institute when you book.
What the exam covers
Since 29 August 2025, KPP01 questions refer to the KPP Gabungan eBook, which has six chapters:
- Bab 1: the Malaysian driving licence and traffic signs, signals and road markings
- Bab 2: the driver code of ethics and conduct (new in the Gabungan module)
- Bab 3: defensive driving theory
- Bab 4: driving in different conditions (rain, night, haze, expressways, hills)
- Bab 5: vehicle components to maintain
- Bab 6: safety equipment and emergency aid
Our bank adds questions on the Road Transport Act 1987 (licences, alcohol limits, accident reporting, insurance) and the KEJARA demerit points system, which the licence chapter introduces.
Free official resources, and what we add
JPJ publishes the KPP Gabungan FAQ and the KEJARA rules on jpj.gov.my, and the Road Transport Act 1987 is available from the Attorney General's Chambers. Your driving institute gives you the KPP Gabungan eBook with your registration. There is no free official question bank. We add 111 original practice questions in eight topic areas, timed 50-question mocks in the real 45-minute format, and a plain explanation with the source for every answer.
How to prepare
- Read the KPP Gabungan eBook chapter by chapter, starting with signs and road markings.
- Learn the sign families by shape and colour: red octagon STOP, inverted triangle GIVE WAY, yellow diamonds warn, blue circles order, red rings prohibit.
- Practise one topic at a time here and read every explanation, including for questions you got right.
- Learn the key numbers: 50 questions, 45 minutes, pass 42; accident report within 24 hours; breath alcohol limit 22 microgrammes per 100 ml.
- Sit full timed mocks until you score well above 42 every time.

A sign is an inverted white triangle with a red border and the words BERI LALUAN. What does it tell you?
- Stop for at least three seconds whatever the traffic conditions
- No entry for all vehicles
- The road narrows
- Give way to traffic on the road you are joining
Answer: D, Give way to traffic on the road you are joining. The inverted triangle is the GIVE WAY sign. You need not stop if the way is clear, but you must give priority to traffic on the main road and stop if needed. The centre of the road is marked with a broken white line. What does it allow?
- You must never cross it under any circumstances
- Crossing to overtake when safe
- Only motorcycles may cross it
- You may park on it
Answer: B, Crossing to overtake when safe. A broken centre line separates opposing traffic but may be crossed when you can see that it is safe, for example to overtake or turn. Source: JPJ KPP Gabungan module, Bab 1 (traffic signs, signals and road markings).
Another driver makes a mistake and nearly causes a collision with you. According to the driver code of conduct, what is the best response?
- Follow the driver closely to show your anger
- Overtake and brake in front of the driver
- Stay calm and let it go
- Flash your headlights and sound the horn repeatedly so that the driver knows they were wrong
Answer: C, Stay calm and let it go. The code of ethics stresses patience and courtesy. Reacting with aggression turns one mistake into a dangerous confrontation. Source: JPJ KPP Gabungan module, Bab 2 (Kod Etika dan Tatakelakuan Pemandu).
